Franchise and multi-location SEO: how to get every location ranking on Google Maps

Franchise SEO is mostly local SEO, done well, many times over. Customers search "near me", Google shows three businesses on a map, and each of your locations either appears there or it doesn't. Here is what moves that, and how to run it across every location without hiring an agency per franchisee.

Why multi-location SEO is different

A single business can rank with one good website and one Google Business Profile. A brand with 40 locations needs 40 of each, all consistent with the brand, each specific to its own neighborhood, and kept accurate as hours, staff and prices change. Most problems come from that scale: duplicate pages that say the same thing for every city, profiles nobody updates, and reviews that go unanswered at the locations that need them most.

The five things that decide local rankings

  1. A real page for every location. Its own address, hours, phone, services, prices, team and photos. Not a city name swapped into the same paragraph. Google needs a page that is clearly about that place.
  2. A complete Google Business Profile. Correct categories, hours, services and a link to the location's own page, not the brand home page.
  3. Consistent name, address and phone everywhere. The same details on the location page, the profile and the directories that matter in your industry.
  4. Steady, recent reviews with replies. Customers weigh recent reviews heavily, and replies show the location is active.
  5. Structured data. LocalBusiness markup with the address, hours and coordinates on each location page, and a sitemap that lists every location.

Measure rank street by street, not as one number

An average ranking hides the problem. A location can rank first outside its front door and not appear at all two miles away, where half its customers live. A geo-grid scan checks rankings at points in a grid around the location, typically 7 by 7, so you can see exactly where it is visible and where it isn't. Run it monthly for each location's main searches, and weekly for locations you are actively fixing.

What headquarters should control, and what locations should own

  • Headquarters: the page templates, brand colors and photos, service names and descriptions, the schema, and which changes need approval.
  • Each location: its hours, team, local offers, photos of its own space, review replies and the neighborhoods it serves.

This split is what keeps a brand consistent while every page stays local enough to rank. It is also what most franchise web setups get wrong: either corporate controls everything and pages go stale, or franchisees control everything and the brand drifts.

How Multistead runs franchise SEO

  • Every location gets its own website from templates headquarters approves, with titles, descriptions, LocalBusiness schema and a sitemap generated for it.
  • AI writes location-specific copy from the location's real details, and a checklist score shows what each page is missing.
  • A 7×7 Google Maps rank grid runs for every location, so you can see which neighborhoods need work.
  • AI drafts replies to Google reviews. Positive ones can go out automatically; sensitive ones wait for the owner.
  • New locations get a pre-opening page that starts collecting searches and sign-ups before the doors open.

Questions

How long does franchise SEO take to work?

Fixes to location pages and Google Business Profiles often show in Maps rankings within weeks. New pages usually take a few months to rank for competitive searches. Rank grids make the progress visible location by location.

Should each location have its own website or a page on the brand site?

Either can rank. What matters is that each location has a page with unique, accurate local content and its own Google Business Profile pointing to it. Multistead supports both: a site per location, or location pages under the brand domain.

Can franchisees edit their own pages without breaking the brand?

Yes, if headquarters sets the guardrails. In Multistead owners choose from approved templates, palettes and photos and edit their own details. Bigger changes go through the brand's approval chain.

What does franchise SEO software cost?

Most platforms quote per location. Multistead publishes its prices: $249, $449 or $649 per location per month, billed annually, with no per-user fees.
