BrightLocal alternative: when you need more than a local SEO tool

BrightLocal publishes its prices, and per location it is far cheaper than Multistead: from $31 a month for one location on annual billing, and under $10 per location on its top Grow plan at 10 to 100 locations. If you need rank tracking, listings and reviews and your location websites already work, BrightLocal is probably the better buy. A BrightLocal alternative like Multistead makes sense when the websites themselves, and the brand control around them, are the problem.

BrightLocal pricing, from its own page

As of October 2026, brightlocal.com/pricing lists three plans. Prices are a total per month for the whole band of locations, not per location. Annual billing saves 25%.

What each plan includes, per BrightLocal:

  • Track: rank monitoring for up to 100 keywords and four competitors, geo-grid maps for up to five keywords, local SEO audits, citation accuracy monitoring, Google Business Profile audits and an AI visibility tracker.
  • Manage: everything in Track, plus listing sync across key sites and GBP post scheduling.
  • Grow: everything in Manage, plus review monitoring and replies, review requests by email, SMS and in-store, and review widgets for your website.

Extras: Citation Builder is pay-as-you-go from $2 per citation, a managed local SEO service is $1,299 a month, and there is a 14-day free trial with no credit card. BrightLocal's homepage pitches agencies and consultants managing up to 250 locations. It does not build websites.

BrightLocal vs Multistead on cost, plainly

At 25 locations, BrightLocal Grow is $222 a month in total. Multistead Local at 25 locations is $449 per location less a 10% volume discount, plus $990 for headquarters: $11,092.50 a month in recurring costs, plus a one-time setup fee, quoted on your first call, based on the number of sites. That is roughly 50 times more. We won't pretend otherwise.

The comparison only becomes fair when you add up the whole stack a brand pays for today: the location websites and their hosting, the web vendor or agency that updates them, rank tracking, review replies, and the time HQ spends handling franchisee change requests by email. If BrightLocal plus your current sites already covers that well, keep it. See our multi-location software pricing guide for the full stack math.

When BrightLocal is the better choice

  • You're an agency or consultant managing local SEO for many clients.
  • You have fewer than five locations (Multistead starts at five).
  • Your location websites are in good shape and someone already maintains them.
  • You want deep keyword rank tracking (up to 100 keywords per location) and citation building on a small budget.
  • You want to try before you buy: BrightLocal has a free trial; Multistead offers a demo on your own locations instead.

When an all-in-one hub with location websites makes sense

Multistead is built for franchises and multi-location brands where headquarters needs control and every location needs its own presence:

  • Every location needs a real website. Each gets its own site from templates HQ approves. Owners edit hours, team, offers and photos within brand guardrails; bigger changes go through approval. See location pages and franchise website design.
  • SEO lives on the site, not in a report. Titles, descriptions, LocalBusiness schema and sitemaps are generated per location, with a checklist score for each page.
  • Rankings for every location. A 7×7 Google Maps grid per location: monthly with 5 keywords on Local, weekly on Complete. BrightLocal tracks more keywords; Multistead puts the grid next to the site you can fix. See the local rank tracker.
  • Listings set up for you. We set up and match your listings during onboarding (Apple Business Connect, Bing Places, Yelp, Facebook and Instagram, Yellow Pages, Foursquare, and Healthgrades for health brands), and the platform flags mismatches after that. It is not an automatic, real-time sync like BrightLocal's listing sync.
  • Franchisee buy-in. Unlimited users, a support desk with SLAs for requests and changes, and reports and dashboards for each location that HQ can see across the brand.
  • Clinics. MFA, audit log and encryption, and we sign a BAA.

Can you use both?

Yes. Some SEO teams will want BrightLocal's deeper keyword tracking or citation building while Multistead runs the websites. Unlimited users means your agency can work inside Multistead too.

Questions

How much does BrightLocal cost?

As of October 2026, BrightLocal's own page lists Track at $31, Manage at $40 and Grow at $49 a month for one location on annual billing. Prices are totals per band of locations: Grow is $222 a month for 21 to 30 locations and $742 a month for 91 to 100. Above 100 locations, pricing is on request.

Is BrightLocal cheaper than Multistead?

Yes, by a wide margin per location. BrightLocal is a local SEO tool and doesn't build websites. Multistead costs $249, $449 or $649 per location per month because it runs a website for every location along with local SEO, a Maps rank grid, review replies and a franchisee support desk.

Does BrightLocal build location websites?

No. BrightLocal covers rank tracking, audits, listings and reviews. You need a separate website platform or agency for the location pages your listings point to.

Does Multistead manage directory listings like BrightLocal?

We set up and match each location's listings during onboarding on the directories that matter, including Apple Business Connect, Bing Places, Yelp, Facebook and Instagram, Yellow Pages and Foursquare, and the platform flags mismatches after that. It is not an automatic, real-time sync, so brands that want that can keep a listings tool alongside.

What are the main BrightLocal competitors?

Whitespark, Local Falcon and Synup are common choices for rank tracking and listings at published prices. Yext, SOCi and Birdeye are larger platforms quoted on request. Multistead is the choice when you also need a website for every location.
